The Treatments & Products That Gave Me Healthier Skin!

Hi loves!

I wanted to share with you some information about my skin issues, what I did to treat them, what products I use, and some information that I wish I knew a long time ago.

My skin:

Growing up I don’t even remember getting one zit, I was very lucky that way. BUT I have always been covered in freckles and beauty marks and really didn’t have that much education on how to take care of them.

I have Portuguese colouring so I get dark really easily, but i’m also Irish... so like many Irish people, I have loads of freckles. In the summers or on vacations my skin gets really dark but so do my freckles. But I never really thought much of it because the winter would come and everything would lighten up again.

But over the years i’ve noticed that the pigment in my freckles had been getting darker… and darker.. and i’m getting more and more of them! They were no longer lightening up when i’d be absent from the sun for a while anymore.

For the past few years i’ve also started to get tiny little hormonal zits on my chin that would scar because i’d try to get rid of them as fast as I could and I started to get redness around my nose.

So needless to say I was feeling really frustrated with my skin and kinda insecure about it to be honest. It wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t good. I felt like my skin just looked dry and lifeless… I wanted to feel balanced, hydrated, glowy and smooth!

Meeting with a Medical Esthetician

I finally bit the bullet, found Dermalounge Mediaspa and immediately booked a consultation. After doing my assessment they knew what treatments and products would be best for me. So as most of you know from my previous blog and Instagram, I started doing skin treatments about 1.5 months ago. I had never even had a facial done before so trying a skin treatment for the first time was a little scary for me. But I must say… i’m so glad I did it!

The first treatment I did was the signature lift (read about my first experience (HERE), 2nd treatment was the lightening peel (targeting dark pigment), and the 3rd was another lightening peel again, but they left it on a little longer then the first. These treatments do not hurt and there is absolutely no down time. Dermalounge gave me take home post treatment sample kits to maintain the results. I absolutely loved the samples so I just had to get he products in the full size.

So how's my skin now?

Well my freckles are lighter, I have 0% acne scaring left, I have the cleanest pores ever, haven’t been getting zits on my chin anymore, and the redness around my nose is gone. My skin is overall more even and hydrated, and i’ve really noticed that my fine lines are a lot less noticeable.

The only thing I regret about this is not going it sooner, 100% honesty. Dermalounge staff makes you feel really special and the girls are so nice, it feels like you’re just hanging with friends.

Here’s the products that i’m using right now and the process of which I use them. Keep in mind that these products last forever! A tiny bit goes a long way.

Product Confusion?

Are you like I was and super confused when it comes to the thousands of beauty products out there?! Like what actually works? What's worth buying? Well to save you time and money i'll explain why medical grade products should be used instead of drugstore or Sephora type products. There's a difference! A huge difference!

Do you actually believe that Jennifer Aniston uses Aveeno anti-aging skincare products? No absolutely not. She's paid to represent the brand because she's beautiful and influential. She of course uses nothing but the best medical grade skin products... and there's a reason for it!

Difference between professional skin care products vs. drugstore or department store brands

Over the counter products must fit average skin concerns, they will not contain many active ingredients and often contain inactive compounds, fragrances and preservatives.

They can say they have peptides, retinol, vitamin C and/or antioxidants in them, but the concentration is so small it's really not going to achieve legit results that can actually help transform your skin over time.

OTC products only work the outer layer of your skin (the epidermis), whereas medical grade products penetrate much deeper. The reason why OTC products only reach the epidermis is because the companies can't legally use the same amount of active ingredients as Medical Grade because of safety reasons.

In a drug store you self diagnose your own skin and these big cosmetic companies can’t afford to have tons of consumers with issues from using those very active products on their skin. So they don't hold the same amount of vitamin C, retinol, peptides, etc.

Safety Use And Purchase

Medical grade products such as IMAGE should not be purchased without having a proper skin consultation by a dermatologist or skin professional. Having a proper consultation ensures that the products you're using on your face are meant for your skin issues and skin type. Professionals monitor the progress of your treatments and skin care routine and recommend adjustments when necessary so you will achieve safe and more effective results. Once you know what products are best for your skin then you can freely purchase them. IMAGE Skincare is Health Canada approved- All their products have undergone testing and approved for use by the government.

This is everything i've learned since i've started professional face treatments and I wish I would have known this information much sooner. It would have saved me hundreds on various products that never worked at all. I hope this helps you!
